France: Business sentiment moderates; remains in positive territory

October 23, 2015

According to the INSEE business climate survey, the business confidence indicator moderated from 104 points in September to 103 points in October. October’s result marked a three-month low. However, the indicator is still above the long-term 100-point average, which is the benchmark measure the INSEE uses to distinguish between improving and worsening business expectations.

According to the INSEE, the result came on the back of deteriorations in all categories that comprise the index. In particular, businesses’ assessment regarding their production expectations and global order books both fell to three-month lows in October.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment contracting 0.5% in 2015, which is unchanged over the previous month’s estimate. For 2016, the panel sees investment expanding 1.9%, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast.
