France: Business confidence steady for fourth consecutive month in March
March 25, 2014
The monthly business sentiment index published by the National Statistical Institute (INSEE) remained at February's 100 points in March, which matched market expectations. This is the fourth consecutive month in which the indicator has remained at its long-term 100-point average, which is the benchmark measure the INSEE uses to distinguish between improving and worsening business expectations. Business leaders in the manufacturing sector were more optimistic regarding past activity and didn't alter their expectations regarding the state of inventories. However, businesses were more pessimistic with respect to the overall situation of production and manufacturing. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private investment expanding 0.8% in 2014, which is up 0.1 percentage points over the previous month's estimate. For 2015, the panel sees investment expanding 2.4%.
