October 14, 2022

Harmonized inflation rose to 8.4% in September, following August’s 7.9%. September's reading was the highest inflation rate since our current records began. The reading was primarily driven by rising prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages. In addition, price pressures for housing and utilities rose at a stronger pace.

Annual average harmonized inflation rose to 5.8% in September (August: 5.2%). Meanwhile, consumer price inflation rose to 8.1% in September, from the previous month's 7.6%.

Finally, harmonized consumer prices increased 0.72% in September over the previous month, swinging from the 0.10% fall logged in August.

Our panelists see harmonized inflation averaging 7.0% in 2022, which is up 0.7 percentage points from the prior month’s projection, and 3.7% in 2023.
