Finland: GDP swings back to mild expansion in Q2

July 14, 2014

According to a preliminary estimate released by Statistics Finland on 14 August, the Finnish economy grew a seasonally-adjusted 0.1% over the previous quarter in Q2. If confirmed, this print represents an improvement over the 0.4% drop tallied in Q1 and marks the largest pace of growth since Q3 last year. During the two previous quarters, the Finish economy tallied contractions.

In annual terms, GDP fell 0.1%, which contrasted the 0.1% expansion recorded in the first quarter. A more detailed set of data on national accounts will be released on 5 September.

The Central Bank expects the economy to expand 0.6% in 2014 before accelerating to a 1.7% expansion in 2015. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect GDP to expand 0.1% this year, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2015, the panel sees GDP expanding 1.3%.
