Finland: GDP growth stagnant in Q3

November 14, 2014

According to a preliminary estimate released by Statistics Finland on 14 November, the Finnish economy grew a seasonally-adjusted 0.2% over the previous quarter in Q3. If confirmed, this print will mirror the 0.2% expansion tallied in Q2, which had marked the highest growth rate since Q3 last year.

In annual terms, GDP recorded zero growth, which was an improvement over the 0.5% contraction recorded in the second quarter. A more detailed set of data on national accounts will be released on 5 December.

The government expects the economy to record flat growth in 2014 before accelerating to a 1.2% expansion in 2015. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect GDP to contract 0.2% this year, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2015, the panel sees GDP expanding 0.8%, also unchanged from last month’s forecast.
