Finland: Economic activity climbs to eight month high in December

February 12, 2016

In December, economic activity increased a working-day adjusted 0.6% over the same month of the previous year, according to the monthly Trend Indicator of Output. The figure was stronger than the revised 0.2% increase recorded in November (previously reported: +0.5% year-on-year). December’s contraction reflected a strong increase in secondary production.

On a monthly basis, economic output in November recorded a 0.2% contraction in seasonally-adjusted terms, which contrasted November’s revised reading of a 0.6% increase (previously reported: -0.2% month-on-month). Average annual growth in economic activity was 0.1% in December, contrasting the 0.2% contraction witnessed in November.

The Central Bank expects the economy to expand 0.7% in 2016 and 1.0% in 2017. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect GDP to expand 0.8% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2017, the panel sees GDP increasing 1.2%.
