Finland: Current account posts surplus in September

The current account posted a EUR 591 million surplus in September. The print marked an improvement compared to the balanced account recorded in August and represented the largest surplus in almost four years.

The trade balance registered a surplus of EUR 587 million in September, which contrasted the EUR 7 million deficit recorded in August. Exports rose 11.8% over the same month last year (August: -5.2% year-on-year) and imports shrunk 6.2% in September (August: -5.9% yoy).

In the 12 months up to September, the current account balance recorded a EUR 3.4 billion deficit, which marked an improvement over the EUR 4.1 billion shortfall recorded in the 12 months up to August.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the current account deficit to reach 0.9% of GDP this year. For 2015, the panel expects the current account deficit to be at 0.7% of GDP.
