August 30, 2019

According to a preliminary estimate released by Eurostat on 30 August, harmonized inflation was unchanged at July’s 1.0% in August. The result is below the European Central Bank’s target rate of near, but under, 2.0%. Rises in the prices for food, alcohol and tobacco, and services was offset by a drop in energy prices.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile energy and unprocessed foods prices, was also unchanged at July’s 1.1% in August.

A complete set of data for harmonized inflation will be released 18 September.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see inflation in the Euro area averaging 1.3% in 2019. For 2020, panelists expect inflation to average 1.4%.
