Estonia: Inflation rises in October

Consumer prices dropped 0.2% in October compared to the previous month, a slightly sharper decrease than in September (-0.1% month-on-month). According to Statistics Estonia, the monthly reading was driven by a drop in 7 of the 12 components; there was an especially steep drop in the prices of education.

Inflation increased from 3.7% in September to 3.8% in October. Annual average inflation rose from 2.8% in September to 3.0% in October.

HICP inflation edged up from 3.9% in September to 4.0% in October. Lastly, average HICP increased from 3.0% in September to 3.3% in October, an almost four-year high.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see harmonized inflation averaging 3.0% in 2018, which is up 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2019, the panel expects harmonized inflation to average 2.6%.
