Ecuador: Inflation drops further in August

In August, consumer prices were unchanged over the previous month, which was up from the 0.08% drop seen in July. Lower prices for communication as well as for clothing were offset by higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as for transportation.

Inflation dropped from 4.4% in July to 4.1% in August, thus hitting a five-month low. Annual average inflation was steady at July’s reading of 4.1% in August, thereby maintaining the highest figure since May 2013.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists foresee inflation at 4.0% at the end of 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. In 2016, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect inflation to decrease to 3.7%.
