Ecuador: Growth in economic activity doubles in April

In April, economic activity increased 8.0% over the same month last year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IDEAC, Indice de Actividad Economica Coyuntural). April’s expansion marked a significant improvement over the previous month’s figure of 3.8% and was the highest result in four months.

On a month-on-month basis, economic activity in April increased 1.02% in seasonally-adjusted terms, which was above the 0.64% increase recorded in March. Annual average growth in economic activity picked up in April to 4.8% from March’s reading of 4.3%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see GDP growing 1.2% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panelists expect the economy to expand 2.2%.
