Ecuador: Growth in economic activity accelerates to 14-month high in December

In December, economic activity increased 9.9% over the same month of the previous year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IDEAC, Indice de Actividad Economica Coyuntural). The expansion marked an acceleration from November’s 2.2% rise and was the strongest expansion in 14 months.

As a result of December’s robust growth, annual average growth in economic activity rose from November’s 3.8% to 4.9% in December, which marked the fastest pace of growth in four months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see GDP growing 2.1% in 2015, which is down 0.9 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panelists also expect the economy to expand 3.0%.
