Ecuador: Growth in economic activity accelerates in June

In June, economic activity expanded 6.1% year-on-year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IDEAC, Índice de Actividad Económica Coyuntural). The reading marked a strong deceleration from May’s 3.8% increase.

On a month-on-month basis, economic activity in June increased 0.9% in seasonally-adjusted terms, up from May’s 0.4% increase. In June, the annual average variation in economic activity rose from May’s 1.0% increase to 2.7%.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report see GDP expanding 0.5% in 2017, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect the economy to grow 1.0%.
