Ecuador: Economic activity accelerates in November

In November, economic activity expanded 2.7% year-on-year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IDEAC, Índice de Actividad Económica Coyuntural). The reading marked an improvement from October’s 1.5% increase and the highest figure in almost two years.

On a month-on-month basis, economic activity in November increased 0.40% in seasonally-adjusted terms, which was below the 0.75% increase recorded in October. In November, the annual average variation in economic activity declined by 3.3%. The figure was above October’s 3.9% contraction and marked the best reading in 10 months.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report see GDP contracting 0.3% in 2017, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect the economy to grow 0.8%.
