Dominican Republic: Economy accelerates in Q3

According to preliminary data from the Central Bank, the economy grew 7.1% in third quarter, thus bringing the accumulated growth rate for the first nine months of the year to 6.7%.

Q3’s expansion was an improvement over the 6.2% increase seen in the previous quarter and marked the fastest rise in over a year. According to the Central Bank, the encouraging figure came on the back of an increase in almost all sectors of the economy.

The government’s 2015 budget projects that the economy will grow 5.0% in 2015. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see the economy growing 5.7% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panelists expect the economy to expand 4.8%.
