Dominican Republic: Growth in economic activity stable in January

In January, economic activity increased 5.9% from the same month of last year, according to an estimate from the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Índice Mensual de Actividad Económica). The reading matched the print observed in December.

On a month-on-month basis, economic activity in January dropped 2.2%, contrasting December’s 1.3% expansion. Meanwhile, annual average growth in economic activity in January mirrored December’s 6.3% increase.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see the economy growing 4.9% in 2017, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect economic growth to average 4.5%.
