Dominican Republic: Growth in economic activity edges down in March

In March, economic activity increased 5.9% from the same month of last year, according to an estimate from the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Índice Mensual de Actividad Económica). The headline figure was a notch below the 6.0% expansion recorded in the previous month.

On a month-on-month basis, economic activity adjusted for seasonal factors in March rose 1.5%, matching February’s reading. Meanwhile, annual average growth in economic activity in March came in at 6.2%, slightly below February’s 6.3%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see the economy growing 4.9% in 2017, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect economic growth to average 4.5%.
