Dominican Republic: Growth in economic activity decreases slightly in May

According to the Central bank’s monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indicador Mensual de Actividad Económica), economic activity increased a preliminary 4.7% in May compared to the same month last year. The headline figure is a slight deceleration from the previous month’s 5.0% rise.

A month-on-month comparison showed that economic activity increased 0.9% in seasonally-adjusted terms, contrasting April’s 0.7% decrease. Annual average growth in economic activity in May, however, decreased for the second consecutive month from 5.5% in April to 5.3%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see the economy growing 5.2% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect economic growth to average 4.6%.
