Dominican Republic: Growth in economic activity decreases in June
August 7, 2017
According to the Central bank’s monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indicador Mensual de Actividad Económica), economic activity increased a preliminary 4.0% in June compared to the same month last year. The headline figure marked a deceleration from the previous month’s 4.7% rise as well as the weakest reading in nearly four years. The sectors that performed best in June were tourism-related services and financial activities, while manufacturing softened from May.
On the back of June’s deceleration, annual average growth in economic activity decreased in June for the fifth month running, from 5.8% in May to 5.5%.
