Dominican Republic: Economic activity improves slightly in December

In December, economic activity increased 7.0% over the same month of the previous year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de Actividad Economica). The expansion was a slight improvement over November’s 6.9% rise and marked the fastest increase in seven months.

However, the trend deteriorated in December, with annual average growth in economic activity inching down from 7.4% in November to 7.3%, thus reaching the lowest value in four months.

The government’s 2015 budget projects that the economy will grow 5.0% in 2015. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see the economy growing 3.8% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panelists expect economic growth to pick up to 4.0%.
