Dominican Republic: Economic activity decelerates slightly in September

In September, economic activity increased 6.4% over the same month last year, according to an estimate of the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de Actividad Economica). The expansion was slightly below the 6.5% increase observed in the previous month.

Moreover, the trend deteriorated slightly in September, with annual average growth in economic activity inching down from 6.8% in August to 6.7% in September.

The government’s 2015 budget projects that the economy will grow 5.0% in 2015. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see the economy growing 3.8% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panelists expect economic growth to pick up to 4.0%.
