Dominican Republic: Economic activity accelerates slightly in May

In May, economic activity increased 7.2% over the same month of last year, according to an estimate of the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de Actividad Economica). The expansion marked the highest reading in ten months and was slightly above the revised 7.1% increase observed in April (previously reported: +7.8% year-on-year).

Annual average growth in economic activity stabilized in May at the 6.6% recorded in April.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see the economy growing 5.5% in 2016, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists expect economic growth to average 4.6%.
