Dominican Republic: Economic activity accelerates slightly in June

In June, economic activity increased 7.6% over the same month of last year, according to an estimate of the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Índice Mensual de Actividad Económica). The expansion marked the highest reading in twelve months and was slightly above the revised 7.5% increase observed in May (previously reported: +7.2% year-on-year).

On a month-on-month basis, variation in economic activity in June swung from minus 2.5% to 1.3%. Meanwhile, annual average growth in economic activity stabilized in June at the 6.6% recorded in May.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see the economy growing 5.5% in 2016, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists expect economic growth to average 4.6%.
