Dominican Republic: Economic activity accelerates in August

In August, economic activity increased 5.4% over the same month of last year, according to an estimate of the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Índice Mensual de Actividad Económica). The reading came in above the 4.7% increase observed in July.

On a month-on-month basis, variation in economic activity in July swung from a 1.1% drop in June to 0.1% growth. Meanwhile, annual average growth in economic activity decreased from July’s 7.1% to 6.9% in August.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see the economy growing 5.5% in 2016, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists expect economic growth to average 4.6%.
