Denmark: Consumer confidence ticks down in January

Consumer confidence came in at minus 4.1 in January, slightly below December’s five-month high of minus 3.8. Consequently, the index moved further away from the 0-point threshold, separating pessimism from optimism among consumers.

Consumers’ expectations improved regarding the financial situation of families in a year from today, and they also became less pessimistic about the country’s economic situation in the coming 12 months. However, after the Christmas period, consumers’ desire to buy large goods at the moment decreased notably, as they now are more inclined to wait. Regarding employment levels, consumers continue to expect the unemployment rate to increase in the coming year.
