Denmark: Consumer confidence rises to over one-year high in April

Consumer confidence came in at minus 1.1 in April, markedly up from March’s minus 5.0. April’s result marked the best reading since March 2020. As such, the index moved closer to the 0-point threshold, but still indicated pessimism among consumers.

The headline print reflected a broad-based upturn in consumers’ sentiment. They became optimistic regarding the economic situation of the country in the coming year. Moreover, their perception of Denmark’s current economic situation compared to a year ago was less sour. Lastly, for the first time since July 2019, consumers expected unemployment levels to fall in the coming 12-month period.
