Denmark Business Confidence December 2016

Denmark: Business confidence at multi-year high in December

January 4, 2017

The business confidence indicator developed by Statistics Denmark (DST) came in at minus 1 point in December, which marked a remarkable improvement from November’s minus 8 points and the best result in over two-and-a-half years. Nonetheless, it is still below the zero-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment, where it has been since June 2014.

According to DST, the majority of businesses in the non-durable goods sector became optimistic, and while in other sectors of the economy firms remained pessimistic, firms in the capital goods sector became less pessimistic compared to November.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect gross fixed investment to grow 2.0% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists forecast an expansion of 2.5%.
