Czech Republic: Industry rebounds in December

February 6, 2015

In December, industrial production grew 7.3% over the same month of the previous year, which contrasted the 0.4% contraction observed in November and marked the best result in three month. According to the Statistical Office, December’s expansion came on the back of increased manufacture of vehicles, electrical equipment as well as machinery and equipment.

A sequential comparison shows that industrial production decelerated from a 1.2% rise in November to a 0.6% increase in December.

Despite the stronger annual reading, the trend moderated slightly in December. Annual average growth in industrial production inched down from 5.0% in November to 4.9% in December, which marked the lowest rate in seven months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial output to expand 4.4% in 2015, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panelists expect industrial output to expand 4.9%.
