Czech Republic: Industrial production slows in May

July 7, 2015

Industrial production increased 2.0% year-on-year in May, which marked the lowest value in six months and was a slowdown compared to the 4.3% expansion registered in April. May’s expansion mainly reflected that increases in the manufacture of motor vehicles, electrical equipment as well as rubber and plastic more than offset a contraction in the production of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply.

A month-on-month comparison showed that industrial output in May contracted 0.5% in seasonally-adjusted terms, which contrasted April’s 0.8% expansion.

The trend stabilized as annual average growth in industrial production in May remained at April’s 4.2%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial output to expand 4.6% in 2015, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panelists expect industrial output to expand 4.8%.
