Czech Republic: Industrial production picks up in April

June 7, 2016

Industrial production in April increased 4.2% year-on-year, which represented an increase compared to the 1.2% expansion registered in March. The acceleration mainly reflected increases in the manufacturing of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, fabricated metal products, and rubber and plastic products. The statistical office also noted that there was one more day in April 2016 than in April 2015, which likely helped boost the yearly increase.

A month-on-month comparison showed that industrial output in April decreased 1.3% in seasonally-adjusted terms, which contrasted March’s 1.5% increase. The trend moderated slightly as annual average growth in industrial production inched down from 4.1% in March to 4.0% in April.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial output to expand 4.5% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists expect industrial output to expand 4.3%.
