Czech Republic: Industrial production drops in October

December 9, 2016

Czech industrial production fell 1.7% year-on-year in October, which contrasted the 2.7% growth registered in September. The reading mainly reflected drops in the manufacturing of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers and of other transport equipment as well as of food products. In contrast, manufacturing of rubber and plastic products equipment as well as of pharmaceutical products increased.

A month-on-month comparison showed that industrial output dropped 0.4% in seasonally-adjusted terms in October, which was a softer drop than September’s 1.7% decrease. As a consequence of October’s fall, annual average growth in industrial production edged down from 3.3% in September to 2.8% in August.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial output to expand 3.6% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists expect industrial output to expand 4.1%.
