Czech Republic: Industrial production decelerates in June

August 8, 2016

Industrial production increased 3.9% year-on-year in June, which represented slower growth compared to the 8.6% increase registered in May and the weakest expansion in three months. The reading mainly reflected increases in the manufacturing of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers and in fabricated metal products. Conversely, manufacturing of chemicals and chemical products as well as activity in mining and quarrying decreased over the previous month.

A month-on-month comparison showed that industrial output increased 2.5% in seasonally-adjusted terms in June, which contrasted May’s revised 0.3% decrease (previously reported: - 0.4% month-on-month). June’s moderate year-on-year expansion dragged on the 12-month trend and annual average growth in industrial production fell from 4.5% in May to 4.1% in June.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial output to expand 3.6% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists expect industrial output to expand 4.1%.
