Czech Republic: Growth in industrial production decelerates in December

February 7, 2017

Czech industrial production grew 2.7% year-on-year in December, which followed the strong 7.0% expansion registered in November. The reading mainly reflected expansions in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, manufacturing of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers and manufacturing of rubber and plastic products sub-sectors. In contrast, the manufacturing of machinery and equipment and mining and quarrying sub-sectors declined.

A month-on-month comparison showed that industrial output contracted 2.2% in seasonally-adjusted terms in December, which contrasted November’s 1.7% growth and marked the lowest result in five months. Despite slower annual growth in December, annual average growth in industrial production inched up from 2.9% in November to 3.0%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial output to expand 3.6% in 2017, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect industrial output to expand 4.1%.
