Czech Republic: Growth in industrial production accelerates in August

September 27, 2017

Czech industrial production expanded a healthy 5.8% year-on-year in August, picking up pace from the prior month’s 3.3% annual growth rate. The result was driven by solid growth in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply sector; the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers; and the manufacture of fabricated metal products. These more than offset decreased output in the repair and installation of machinery and equipment, and mining and quarrying. It should be noted that August 2017 contained the same number of working days as the same month last year.

In seasonally-adjusted monthly terms, industrial output jumped 14.3% in August, sharply contrasting the previous month’s 10.0% contraction. Conversely, annual average growth in industrial production decreased from 5.2% in July to 4.5% in August.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial output to expand 3.6% in 2017, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect industrial output to expand 4.1%, up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate.
