Czech Republic: Economy decelerates in Q3

November 15, 2016

Czech GDP grew 0.3% over the previous quarter in Q3 in seasonally- and working-day adjusted terms, according to an advance estimate released by the National Statistics Office (CSO) on 15 November. The result came in below the 0.9% growth observed in Q2 and undershot the 0.4% growth markets had expected. It also marked the lowest reading in three quarters. More detailed data will be released on 1 December.

In annual terms, GDP grew 1.9% in Q3, which represented a deceleration compared to the 2.6% rise observed in Q2 and the slowest pace since Q4 2013.

The Czech National Bank expects the economy to expand 2.8% in 2016 and 2.9% in 2017. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the economy to expand 2.5% in 2016, which is unchanged from the previous month’s projection. For 2017, the panel sees GDP increasing 2.6%, which is also unchanged from last month’s projection.
