March 8, 2016

In January, industrial output rose 9.3% over the same month last year in working-day adjusted terms, which was strongly above December’s 0.6% increase and marked the highest reading since March 2007. The increase reflected double-digit growth in the manufacturing sector, which also grew at the highest pace since March 2007.

On a monthly basis, industrial production in January grew 3.2% in seasonally-adjusted terms, which contrasted December’s 1.8% decrease. As a result, average annual growth in industrial production rose from December’s 2.4% to 3.5% in January.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 2.6% in 2016, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. In 2017, the panel sees industrial production growth at 2.8%.
