September 4, 2015

In July, industrial output rose 3.9% over the same month last year in working-day adjusted terms, coming in above June’s 1.6% increase. The acceleration reflected stronger performances in manufacturing as well as in electricity, gas and steam. Conversely, mining and quarrying grew in July at the softest rate in seven months.

On a monthly basis, industrial production in July grew 3.6% in seasonally-adjusted terms, contrasting June’s 3.0% fall. The overall trend improved as annual average growth in industrial production inched up from June’s 1.6% to 1.8% in July.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 1.7% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. In 2016, the panel sees industrial production growth at 2.6%.
