Costa Rica: Inflation quickens in April

In April, consumer prices rose 0.63% over the previous month, which was above the 0.40% price increase registered in March. The monthly reading reflected higher prices for transport as well as for food. As a result, annual inflation rose from 4.2% in March to 4.7% April. Meanwhile, the core inflation index, which smoothens short-term fluctuations in the consumer price index, added 0.26% in April, above the 0.16% increase seen in March. Nevertheless, annual core inflation fell to 3.7% in April from 4.1% in March.
