Costa Rica: Inflation edges up in October

Consumer prices fell 0.12% in October from the previous month, which was a smaller drop than September’s 0.47% decrease. According to the Statistical Institute, the result reflected lower prices in several categories, but mostly in the energy and food and non-alcoholic beverages category.

Inflation edged up from 0.4% in September to 0.6% in October. Moreover, the annual average variation in consumer prices continued to recover some ground. It recorded a slight increase in October, inching up from a 0.4% drop in September to a 0.3% decrease.

FocusEconomics panelists see inflation ending 2016 at 1.5%, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month's forecast. In 2017, the panel sees year-end inflation at 3.1%, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast.
