Costa Rica: Growth in economic activity stabilizes in November

In November, economic activity in Costa Rica increased 4.5% from the same month of the previous year, according to the monthly index of economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de Actividad Economica). November’s figure was in line with the 4.5% increase recorded in October. In November, the strongest improvements were recorded in the services and agricultural sectors.. The manufacturing sector also picked up the pace in November.

Compared to the previous month, economic activity expanded 0.22% in November, slightly below the revised 0.24% increase recorded in October (previously reported: +0.1% month-on-month). Meanwhile, the overall trend was steady at October’s 4.7% in November.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect GDP to expand 4.0% in 2017, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2018, participants see GDP growing 3.9%.
