Colombia: Exports rebound in September

November 5, 2014

Exports rebounded from August’s 3.0% annual contraction to a 4.9% rise in September, the largest expansion in four months. According to the National Statistical Office (DANE), the increase was driven by rising exports of agricultural food products and, to a lesser extent, of fuel and products from extractive industries.

Imports fell 1.5% in August (the most recent month for which data are available), contrasting July’s 19.0% expansion sharply. The trade balance recorded a USD 73 million deficit in August, contrasting the USD 3 million surplus recorded in the same month of last year.

LatinFocus Consensus Forecast panelists expect that exports will expand 1.1% in 2014 and 6.5% in 2015.
