Colombia: Exports moderate slightly in August

In August, exports expanded 50.5% over the same month last year to USD 5.0 billion. Although this represented a slight moderation compared with the 55.0% increase in July, exports maintained the double-digit pace of growth for the 13th consecutive month. The August increase mainly reflected strong growth in petroleum shipments (63.1% year-on-year) and coal exports (51.7% yoy). Owing to the solid reading, the moving three-month sum of exports rose from USD 14.4 billion in July to USD 14.6 billion in August, which represented a new record high. Meanwhile, in July, the latest month for which data are available, imports grew 32.8% year-on-year (June: +45.9% yoy) and the trade surplus widened from USD 156 million in June to USD 326 million in July.
