Colombia: Inflation remains steady in March
April 6, 2011
In March, consumer prices rose 0.27% over the previous month, decelerating from the 0.60% increase observed in February. The monthly price rise mainly reflected higher prices for health services as well as communications. Food prices, which represent the largest weight in the CPI basket, remained virtually flat in March, adding just 0.08% month-on-month. Annual headline inflation remained unchanged at 3.2% in March. The core inflation index, which excludes more volatile items such as fresh food and fuels, increased a meagre 0.19% month-on-month in March and annual core inflation remained steady at 3.1% for the third straight month. Currently, inflation remains within the 1.0 percentage point tolerance margin of the Central Bank's 3.0% target.
