Colombia: Inflation continues to moderate
April 9, 2012
In March, consumer prices added 0.12% over the previous month. The figure was below both the 0.61% rise observed in February as well as market expectations of a 0.34% increase. The monthly figure mainly reflected how a sharp increase in health prices was nearly offset by lower prices for leisure. As a result of the subdued monthly increase, annual headline inflation fell from 3.6% in February to 3.4% in March. The core inflation index, which excludes volatile items such as fresh food and fuels, added 0.19% month-on-month in March. As a result, annual core inflation remained stable for a second consecutive month at 3.8%, thus still within the Central Bank's target of 3.0%, with a 1.0 percentage point tolerance margin.
