Colombia: Pace of industrial production slows in September

In September, industrial production rose 2.0% over the same month of the previous year, which was a deceleration compared to the 2.6% increase recorded in August. The reading slightly undershot market expectations of a 2.1% rise. The print reflected decreases in 18 out of the 39 index’s sub-categories. The result mainly came on the back of a deterioration in oil refining activities, which more than offset improvements in the beverage processing industry.Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report expect that industrial production will expand 1.7% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel expects industrial production to increase 3.7%, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate.
