Colombia: Pace of industrial production accelerates in August

In August, industrial production rose 2.6% over the same month of the previous year, which was an acceleration compared to the 0.6% increase recorded in July. The reading overshot market expectations of a 1.1% rise. The print reflected increases in 25 out of the 39 index’s sub-categories. The mining and non-metallic industry registered the most significant improvement.Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report expect that industrial production will expand 1.7% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel expects industrial production to increase 3.7%, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate.
