Colombia: Industrial production rebounds in May

In May, industrial production (excluding coffee threshing) rose 2.0% over the same month last year, which contrasted the 2.4% contraction recorded in April. Nevertheless, the expansion came in below the 4.0% rise that market analysts had expected. The reading reflects increases in 28 of the index’s 44 sub-categories. The production of sugar and chemical substances made the greatest contributions to the expansion.

Annual average variation in industrial production swung from minus 0.1% in April to plus 0.3% in May.

LatinFocus Consensus Forecast participants expect that industrial production will expand 3.0% in 2014, which is up 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, the panel expects industrial production to increase 3.6%.
