Colombia: Industrial production picks up in March

May 12, 2017

In March, industrial production swung to a 4.8% expansion annually (February: -3.2% year-on-year), after two months of contraction. Colombia’s National Statistical Institute (DANA) reported a broad-based improvement as 27 out of the 39 components of the industrial production index gained ground compared to the previous month. Increases in the production of petroleum and non-metallic minerals drove March’s expansion.

As a result of March’s upsurge, annual average growth in industrial production increased from 2.5% in February to 2.8% in March.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report expect industrial production to expand 2.7% in 2017, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel expects industrial production to increase 3.3%.
