Colombia: Industrial production growth slows in March

In March, industrial production rose 1.4% over the same month last year, which marked a drastic deceleration compared to the 8.3% increase recorded in February and was an eight-month low. The print reflected increases in 10 of the index’s 39 sub-categories.

Despite the yearly deceleration, the trend inched upwards. Average annual growth in industrial production reached 2.3% in March, which followed the 2.2% expansion observed in February and marked the highest average growth rate since July 2012.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report expect that industrial production will expand 5.1% in 2016, which is up 0.9 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects industrial production to increase 3.9%.
