Colombia: Industrial production contracts in January

March 13, 2015

In January, industrial production shrank 2.5% over the same month of the previous year. The print mainly reflected decreases in coking, oil refining and fuel production, sugar and raw cane sugar processing as well as print activities. Colombia’s National Statistical Institute (DANE) calculated the industrial production indicator for January 2015 based on a new methodology.

In December 2014, industrial production had expanded 2.1%.

LatinFocus Consensus Forecast participants expect that industrial production will expand 2.8% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel expects industrial production to increase 3.5%.
